Young rider takes the lunchtime lead in the BE100

One of the youngest riders in the BE100 section heads up the leaderboard as we head into lunch on day one of the Voltaire Design Grassroots Championships.

Imy Pugh, riding the 12-year-old Moonshine Melody, entered the arena early in the section and pulled off a very polished test to score 27.

Moonie, as he is known at home, is owned by Project Pony, a scheme set up by Ian and Elizabeth Barrett to support talented young riders on their pathway through pony eventing.

Imy, from Lincolnshire, qualified for the Championships after a very successful first season with Moonie in 2023 and they hope to progress up the pony eventing ladder in 2024 with Pony Trials in their plan. The championships is a real family occasion for the Pugh family with mum and dad here to cheer the combination on along with Imy’s No.1 supporter, her granny Tricia Porter.
